The Midwest Leadership Institute's educational course is an invaluable resource for both current leaders and those aspiring to leadership roles. It highlights the critical importance of understanding leadership principles beyond technical proficiency, encompassing areas such as emotional intelligence, strategic communication, and effective interpersonal skills. Reflecting on my own experience, I regret not having undertaken this course or one similar prior to assuming the role of Director in 2014. This is a class that has been missing from the fire service. The fire service does a great job of teaching us how to lead on the fireground but falls short on teaching us how to lead around the firehouse. This class dives into the importance of interpersonal relationships and provides you tools to grow those relationships so that you can better lead. This class really makes you reflect on who you are and who you want to be as a leader. I recommend this class to anyone who truly wants to grow as a leader.
